From 1 July 2017, a new way to purchase domestic building insurance (DBI) in Victorian will be adopted.
BuildVic, will streamline the process of purchasing DBI insurance, providing better acesss to information and offer a better deal for builders, with increased certaintly for regulators and consumers. The new online portal, BuildVic, will provide access via multiple devices where builders will benefit from faster and easier access to DBI certificates and related DBI documentation.
What you need to do before 1 July
If your broker is on the list of approved DBI distributors (see below), then you will not need to action anything. The VMIA will send you a log in and password to Build Vic and you can commence issuing your own certificates for DBI from 1 July 2017.

If you are using another broker, you may need to take action before 1 July 2017, either directly via the approve DBI distributor or via your broker who will be able to assist you in choosing one of the above distributors. If you prefer, your broker may also continue to purchase and manage your DBI via an approved distributor on your behalf.
Will existing building work be covered during the changeover process?
Any DBI certificates issued prior to this new process will remain valid for the period of time stated on the certifiate
