A new registration process to ensure ‘restricted works’ are performed by appropriately qualified and experienced sub-contractors is proposed to commence on 1 September 2020.
The Government proposes to only permit sub-contractors who are registered to perform the relevant ‘restricted’ work, in both the domestic and commercial sectors of the building industry, to undertake the building work.
Trades relevant to the ‘restricted’ building work will include carpenters (and framers), plasterers, footing and foundation workers, bricklayers, and water proofers.
Further details and the extent of the proposed registration scheme will be made following completion of a Regulation Impact Assessment process.
