Stretcher facilities are installed in a building to allow a stretcher to be used for the safe evacuation of a sick or injured person.
These stretcher facilities must accommodate a raised stretcher with a patient lying in a horizontal position, by providing a clear space of not less than 600 mm wide x 2000 mm long x 1400 mm high in lieu of the standard lift which generally measures 1600 mm long x 1400 mm high.
When to accommodate stretcher facilities :
- In all building classes with an effective height of more than 25m
- In class 9a & b buildings where patients or residents are on levels which do not provide direct access to a road or open space
- Building that are over 12m in effective height, must combine an emergency lift with a passenger lift
