Changes to the National Construction Code, effective 1 May 2016, will enable the use of timber construction for Class 2, Class 3 and Class 5 buildings of up to eight storeys without the need for ‘alternative solutions’.
Currently, timber buildings are restricted to three storeys, with taller buildings requiring ‘alternative solutions’ to gain approval. This can be a costly and a lengthy process and is a welcomed amendment.
