The Planning Minister released new draft planning controls proposed for Melbourne CBD and Southbank following the interim planning controls introduced in September 2015.
Developed with input from the City of Melbourne and the Office of Victorian Government Architect, the draft introduces podium and setbacks space and a floor area ratio of 18:1 as opposed to the FAR of 24:1 released in the interim controls last year. Consideration will be given to developments which exceed this ratio where they ‘give back to the community’; for example, providing a child care centre, open public spaces and laneways.
Amendments to the Planning Scheme will not be implemented until the reporting process is complete and considered by the Planning Minister. The public can have their say with regard to the proposed changes by making a submission (open until 5pm Monday, 30 May 2016).
