Note from the Victorian Building Authority

“All builders must make sure they have a copy of the building permit before they begin work on a project.

Even if an application for a building permit has been submitted, work cannot begin until the relevant building surveyor has issued the building permit.

This reminder comes after a domestic builder was fined $3000 by the Building Practitioners Board in July this year and ordered to pay costs of $968 for starting construction on a new swimming pool without a building permit. Although the builder had applied for a building permit before starting work on the project, the building permit wasn’t issued until two days after work began.”
