From 1 September, the Building Practitioners Board will no longer be in operation with all functions transferring over to the Victorian Building Authority (VBA).
This includes:
- registration of building practitioners;
- supervision and monitoring of building practitioners’ conduct and ability to practice (including disciplinary proceedings & action);
- issuing certificates of consent to owner builders.
Disciplinary action and review of decisions
Decisions to take disciplinary action will be made by the VBA under updated provisions, including:
- a new show cause process where disciplinary action is proposed to be taken
- a new right to internal review of a VBA decision (for example, to refuse an application for registration or to take disciplinary action), by an independent internal review unit within the VBA.
Owner-builders
Anyone applying for a certificate of consent to carry out domestic building work as an owner-builder will apply to the VBA, under the updated requirements for issuing certificates of consent.
