Amendment to the NCC on 1st May 2016 allows the use of timber in construction, for Class 2, 3 & 5 buildings of up to eight stories without the need for ‘alternative solutions’. Whilst this change is a relatively new clause, it is important to note that it does not apply to projects with building applications dated prior to 1 May 2016.
The use of timber structures are currently permitted under NCC as concessional clauses exist for apartment buildings up to 4 levels with a basement level carpark and sprinkler installation throughout.
Consult your building surveyor or contact our office for further information.
