BarisBaris, or Baz as he’s known – has been in the building industry for the good part of 6 years now, but you wouldn’t have thought he would be a “9 to 5’er” as he was growing up.

Ever since Baz was 4 years old, all he wanted to do was be a professional soccer player. Heavily influenced by his father who played professionally, his weekdays consisted of soccer training first and school homework second.

After completing his Marketing and International Trade Degree at Victoria University (whilst playing soccer in the Victoria Premiere League), Baz was offered the opportunity to sign a professional contract in his parents’ motherland of Turkey.

At age 22, Baz signed a 3 year contract with Turkish first division team Elazigspor, although this became short-lived due to injuries, which saw Baz return to Melbourne and begin a career path in Building Surveying with John Grimbos at Davis Langdon.

Thrown in the deep end, Baris showed he was both capable and willing to pursue Building Surveying and enrolled himself into a Bachelor of Building Surveying at Holmesglen, whilst still working on a full time basis.

Baz swiftly continued to progress his career as a Building Surveyor (following the sale of Davis Langdon) at a well-established firm located in Melbourne’s CBD. With his enthusiasm and ability, Baz began to form a reputation and was on the radar of the big players in the industry, including his former boss and mentor, John Grimbos.

In September 2015, Baz was offered a position at Grimbos Building Surveyors and he could not pass up on the opportunity to work with John and former colleagues again. Baz continues to be a valuable asset to the Grimbos team in his role as Senior Building Code Consultant, while still pursuing his first dream in some capacity, playing soccer at a semi-professional level in the Victorian State leagues. Although only being in the industry for less than a decade, it appears Baz will keep “kicking goals” for many years to come for team Grimbos.
